Water Scarcity, Security and Democracy: a Mediterranean Mosaic

Forthcoming 2014
Edited by Francesca de Châtel, Gail Holst-Warhaft and Tammo Steenhuis. Published by the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean and the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future at Cornell University, Athens & Ithaca, 2014.
This edited volume presents a combination of scientific, technical, historical and cultural perspectives on water management in the water-scarce Mediterranean. Rather than presenting a unified view of a single, one-size-fits-all solution, A Mediterranean Mosaic provides a platform for the exchange of ideas between diverse fields, ranging from hydrogeology, law and philosophy to sociology, agricultural science and liberal arts.

The book highlights the layered and multi-faceted richness of the region’s water history and traditions and shows how it can serve as a living laboratory in the search for viable long-term water management strategies.
